Welcome to flipMD!

We are very excited to have you join the first and only physician gig economy ever created. As many of you may or may not know, physicians work pretty hard. We are trying to make it much easier to find interesting jobs outside the clinic, hospital, or operating room. Many physicians are looking to do something a little different, whether to make a little extra income to help pay off student loans or pay for a new vacation or simply to try something completely different.

Over the last year and a half, I have needed to find new ways to make money as a resident physician to support my family (childcare & mortgage payments); so, I did. I used my MD and MPH degrees and leveraged them to create a consulting side business doing things outside of residency to supplement my salary. I did some interesting things such as finding links related to explaining COVID for a new company, ghostwriting medical articles, data analysis, interviewing for new health tech companies, etc.

Then the idea struck while driving back from a vacation (which was paid for by a data analysis job), why can’t we just create a gig economy for every physician to find side jobs? And that’s exactly what we did. We reached out to stakeholders within other industries (startups, health tech, pharma, medical device, law firms, etc.) to determine if the process for finding physicians was a problem, and the resounding answer was...yes. So we set off on the most interesting journey to launch a fully formed company in 6-weeks and have now grown to well over 1,000 physicians in 3-months.

We created flipMD to lower the barriers for communication and collaboration between several different industries and currently practicing physicians in every specialty spread throughout the United States. We are thrilled to have you join us on flipMD and encourage you to reach out and let us know how we can make things even better moving forward.

Gregory Hanson, MD, MPH

Greg is a PGY-4 interventional radiology resident at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia. He graduated from UCLA with his BS in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences before moving across the country to New York City. While in New York, Greg obtained his Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology with an advanced certificate in applied biostatistics. He then went on to do his medical school training at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire. In June 2018, he started his post-graduate training with a surgical intern year at Jefferson before continuing there for his integrated interventional radiology residency. During his first year of diagnostic radiology, he began offering his services to various clients by any means possible and was able to make additional side income to help support his family through residency training. This is what sparked the idea for flipMD.
